WHO IS HCPAP?

Hampshire County Pet Adoption Program has been
rescuing dogs for over 9 years. We do rescue cats and
rabbits sometimes, too. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit
organization maintained solely by volunteers.
We are not a shelter.
All of our animals are
fostered in the homes of our
volunteers.
You can find us every Saturday at PetSmart in Winchester,
Virginia between the hours of 11:00 a.m. & 4:00 p.m.
Visit the
Special Events page for specific dates and
possible cancellations.

WHERE DO OUR ANIMALS COME FROM?

All of our dogs are strays or have been released to us by
their owners. Our cats have been either strays or
abandoned. Our rabbits were surrendered to us by
previous owners.  We also help out local shelters
whenever possible.

DO WE EUTHANIZE?

We are fortunate enough to not have to euthanize. We
keep every animal until they find their forever home.
However, because our animals are in foster homes, this
does greatly limit the number of animals we are able to
rescue at one time.

WHY DO WE FOSTER?

Fostering gives us the unique ability to match each animal
with an appropriate owner.  We are able to discover the
personality of each individual animal and the type of
environment they will flourish in.  This allows us to
determine how your new pet will behave around other
dogs, cats, and children. This also gives us an opportunity
to socialize & introduce training to each animal.

THE PEOPLE BEHIND HCPAP.

All HCPAP's volunteers have full time jobs and/or are full
time students.
Animal rescue by itself is like a full time job.
We all have devoted the little spare time we have to finding
homes for so many great animals.
OUR PURPOSE...

is to first RESCUE abused, neglected stray & unwanted
animals. Second, we
PROVIDE health care, treatment,
socialization & love to each individual animal.
Finally, and most importantly, we find responsible
people to adopt these wonderful animals.
Our ultimate goal is
a great home for each animal & a
great animal for each home!
